He spends the chorus asking someone to be a messenger between them, singing “if you see her tell her that she’s everything, I need her.” In this song, Klein has not seen his lover since they split.

The third track “If You See Her” continues with the upbeat trend. On the hook of the song, Klein is looking for another chance, asking, “Can I talk you into taking me back.” The theme of the relationship ending so fast comes back up again as he begs the girl to stop for a second and think: “baby, won’t you slow down, this can make or break us.” The second track is reminiscent of LANY’s signature sound on their debut album with a steady drum beat and synth chords throughout the verses. The song goes on to portray the shock he felt when the relationship ended abruptly. The album starts strong and upbeat with “Thick and Thin.” The first verse of the song tells the story of Klein’s relationship falling apart, portraying the fight that caused his lover to call it quits: “hands talk, won’t stop, we go to war,” he sings. Klein calls this time period both “the worst” and “the most productive” 45 days of his life. The album comes after Klein’s breakup with pop singer Dua Lipa and was written in a compressed amount of time simply because he needed to keep busy. Goss runs the drums and the sampling pad, while Priest mostly handles the keys. Klein is the front man of the group, providing vocals, guitar, and occasionally piano. LANY (an acronym for Los Angeles New York) is made up of Paul Klein, Jake Goss, and Les Priest. The trio released their nine song album on October 5, less than two years after their 16 track self-titled debut. We thank you.“Malibu Nights” is the sophomore album from alternative pop band LANY. LANY outdid themselves this time, and I know music fans everywhere appreciate them for becoming vulnerable and putting their feelings and struggles out there for the world to see. This is a beautiful masterpiece and I couldn't ask for anything better. Acknowledging that getting over a relationship doesn't happen overnight and it will take time. Just accept that she's gone and to let himself be sad. Which leads to a perfect transition into the final two songs, "Thru These Tears" and "Malibu Nights." It's here when, after all, is said and done, he's tried everything to get over her, and now the last thing to do is just be sad. Obviously, from the songs, it is harder than he expects and in all three of these songs, he fails to get over her. Where it goes from him missing her and wanting her back, to now he's trying to get over her and is working at forgetting her. When you get to "I Don't Wanna Love You Anymore," "Let Me Know," "Run" and "Valentine's Day" you really begin to notice the progression from the first three songs. He opens himself up and becomes completely vulnerable and really says how he feels and lets the girl know he needs her back. "Taking Me Back" and "If You See Her" are both songs where he is crying out to the girl begging for her back. To the point where, by the time you get through the album and make it to "Malibu Nights", last song on the album, you're so emotionally shook you don't know what to do with yourself. Starting with "Thick and Thin" which is basically portraying the breakup and his state right afterward, and then the progression through the album almost tells a story. It is impossible to listen to this album and not want to cry. Not every song on this album is about Lipa, but their breakup did spark him to release all his emotions on to paper and write this beautiful work of art. Sparked by a break up with Dua Lipa in January of this year, Paul took a hiatus from social media for a couple months and spent that time writing. Lead Singer Paul Klein pours himself into these lyrics and gives us such a deep look into what he was dealing with during this time. Malibu Night shows the side of a breakup a lot of artists don't write about. The majority of break up albums are mostly big middle fingers at their ex, but this one is different. We knew what to expect from Malibu Nights since the release of “Thru These Tears” in June, but I never imagined it would be this deep.
